Edges

It’s Tews’ day  … strong winds and heat combining here in Pittsburgh, Kansas.

Stress is caused by being ‘here’ but wanting to be ‘there,’ or being in the present but wanting to be in the future. — Eckart Tolle

Today is the birthday of Paul McCartney. The musician and songwriter turns 82 today, born in 1942on Liverpool, England

In 1815, Napoleon Bonaparte lost his final major battle near Waterloo Village in Belgium

Another one of my homies … Blake Shelton was born in 1976, Ada, Oklahoma,   He is 47 today.

For those with interest in the “bleeding edge” of health, medicine, and psych … check out

Maybe I'm a man
Maybe I'm a lonely man who's in the middle of something
That he doesn't really understand . . . Paul McCartney

Trying to leave somethinfg behind
I belive we are at the wrong fight
And I can not read what I did not write
I've been to his house, but the master is gone
i”m just trying to leave something behind.

Sean Rowe.

Enough Light

Monday, June 17, 2024

It’s the Moon’s day … another hot one here in Southeast Kansas . . ;

Noteworthy:  The Watergate Scandal started today in 1972 when five burglars were found and arrested in the Democratic National Committee headquarters located in the Watergate complex of Washington, D.C.  The incident led to President Nixon’s resignation.  Heather Cox Richardson posted a recall on her blog: Letters from an American.

Poet Ron Padgett turns 82 today. A hometown denizen of mine, Ron was born on this day in 1942, Tulsa,Oklahoma.

                      Words from the Front

We don’t look as young

as we used to

except in the dim light …

It’s enough

to make you happy.

                      — Ron Padgett, from How to Be Perfect, Coffee House Press. 2007.

Powerhouses

It’s Sol’s day… a beautiful, mild start to the morning here in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Today, Joyce Carol Oates is celebrating her 86th birthday. The prolific, novelist, poet, essayist and multiple award recipient was born  in 1938, Lockport, New York.  She is regarded as a true literary powerhouse

And, the publisher of The Washington Post, Katharine Graham, was born  197 years ago today in 1917, New York, New York.  She was especially known for supporting the Post’s investigation into the Watergate scandal.

Speaking of powerhouses … how about Leo Kottke.  ... twice:

younger than I suspect any of us today . . .

and still at it..,,. 5 years ago …

When you're 50 you start thinking about things you haven't thought about before. I used to think getting old was about vanity; but actually it's about losing people you love. Getting wrinkles is trivial. — Joyce Carol Oates
