Yearning

In the mailbox this rainy Wednesday morning…

Love is the extremely difficult realisation that something other than oneself is real.-- Iris Murdoch

Why is it that we yearn to be more or other than we are? We didn’t come into this life to shop, to chalk up experiences, to amass objects we can’t take with us when we go, or even to make a lot of money...In truth, it is not the number and diversity of our possessions that is the problem but our attachment to them...It so rarely occurs to us that what we are looking for may be—indeed, always is—already within us, simply undiscovered. – Toinette Lippe, “Between Eternities” (Tricycle, Winter 2002 and reposted online 4/20/22). https://tricycle.org/magazine/between-eternities/

What we call “success” is just the manifestation of our mind’s ability to categorize things. What is “success?” What is “failure?” Who says? You says. That’s all. Reality is what is. Beyond all concepts of success and failure, the real thing has to do with our efforts in each unfolding moment.

Blessings. jb
