Another Michigander writer was also born on this day two years later than Harrison. That would be Thomas McGuane, born in 1939 Wyandotte, Michigan.

Today is the 193rd anniversary of Emily Dickinson's birth in 1830 Amherst, Massachusetts.
On this day in 1901, the first Nobel Prizes were distributed. The event was held on the fifth anniversary of the death of Swedish industrialist Alfred Nobel. The Nobel Prizes have not been without controversy. Some have been worthy of the tabloids.
And in 1884 Mark Twain's classic novel Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published.
