Celebrating Fathers' Day
In the mailbox this hot Sunday summer’s day …
It feels like we need to be reparented at this precarious moment.
I think "We the People" need a talking to. We need to be reminded by someone who has seen firsthand what can happen when we don’t pay attention, when we don’t listen, when we take freedom for granted, and when we confuse flash for integrity. We need to be reminded what happens when we allow a master gaslighter to get in our heads and our hearts.
We also need to be reminded how lucky we are to live where we do. I'm not saying where we live is perfect, and God knows we can do better, but we are lucky to have the right to vote like we do and to have a free press like we do and to have leaders who are willing to do the hard work of bringing truth to light and showing us who we are and what’s at stake. – Maria Shriver
“...is there a consciousness in it all? Let me assume that it is, and I have something to learn through this curriculum I’ve been handed … What does it mean that I’m a part of a very affluent culture? Should I deny it? Should I just grab at it and greedily, take everything I can? Or, do I hear what it means to steward resources?" – Ram Dass
We will not be happy living selfishly in a small world. We must live in awareness and in association with the whole real world. Our universe. Our cosmos. Our environment. Our earth. Our air. Our water supply. Our country. Our neighbor. Our car. Our homes. All are part of simple living. – José Hobday, Simple Living: The Path to Joy and Freedom (New York: Continuum, 2006) edited from a posting by Fr. Rohr in Daily Meditations.
