Lives Lived and Living
In the mailbox this Saturday morning...
An historic marker: Today is the anniversary of Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo, Belgium in 1815. It was his final battle and put an end to the Napoleonic era in Europe. After his abdication he was once again exiled – to the island of St. Helen's. He died there in 1821.
Today is the anniversary of the birth of Paul McCartney in Liverpool, England. He and I are now the same age – 80. I'm three months almost to the day older.
We have two lives: one we are in at this moment; the second begins when we realize that this one is the only one we have.
Kate Bush seems to have entered this second life as early as 14 years old ..
Ms. Bush is now 64 years old... and experiencing a major rediscovery as a result of a tv series "Stranger things" that aired this past May. It adopted one of her most intriguing songs "running up that hill" ...
Recalling her (or not) here's a few links and lyrics ... and yes there's a personal thread here:
Running Up that Hill The Man with a Child in His Eyes The Hounds of Love
Ms. Bush also influenced many artists and continues to do so... not the least of whom was Peter Gabriel who rewrote and brought her in to record the title track of a major hit album of his, released in 1978 if I recall accurately: Don't Give Up
If ever there was a musical artist ahead of their time…Ms. Bush would be my candidate for such a laurel. Here’s a good start for a contextual history of Kate Bush:
…then is now, now is then…enjoy being in both…
