In the mailbox this morning, some anniversaries:
It is the 531st anniversary of the birth of Henry VIII in Greenwich, England.
John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Church, was born 319 years ago today, in Epworth, Lincolnshire, England
Today is the 310th anniversary of the birth in Geneva, Switzerland of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. The phrase “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity,” adopted by the French revolution, was written in Rousseau's essay The Social Contract.
And, speaking as we are of the historical march toward freedom: Today marks the beginning of the LGBTQ movement rising from the police raids of gay bars in NYC that culminated in the Stonewall uprising in the early hours 53 years ago this morning in 1969.
