Today is the birthday of Fred Astaire, born in 1899, Omaha, Nebraska. Regarded by many as the greatest popular-music dancer of all time, particularly in motion pictures where he was accompanied by another gifted dancer, Ginger Rogers. She was quoted as having said “I dance the same steps as Fred, only backward and in heels.” The pair were unequaled.

Bono is 66 today. The lead singer for the popular Irish rock band U2 and a prominent human rights activist was born in 1960, Dublin, Ireland..
