Ms. Jett gave us the best definition of rock and roll I’ve heard in her acceptance speech made without notes.

Don't Hesitate

If you suddently and unexpectedly feel joy,

don't hesitate . . .

It could be anything,

but likely

you notice it in the instant

when love begins.

Anyway, whatever it is,

don't be afraid of its plenty.

Joy is not made to be a crumb.

– Mary Oliver, “Don't Hesitate,” Swan, Beacon Press,2010.

Poetry shines a dangerous light . . .

Saturday, September 20, 2025. It's the Satyr's day . . . and the weatherfeather indicates a 50/50 chance for thunderstorms this afternoon in TulseyTown. Moderate Southerlies are to bring them along with upper 80's and better rain chances tonight.

The first annual Cannes Film Festival opened today at the resort city of Cannes on the French Riviera.

The 14th Poet Laureate of the United States, Donald Hall, was born in 1928 New Haven, Connecticut.

It's the birthdate of writer Upton Sinclair. The author of The Jungle, an expose of the meat packing industry of the early 1900's, was born in 1878 Baltimore, Maryland.

The American People will take Socialism, but they won't take the label. I certainly proved it in the case of EPIC. Running on the Socialist ticket I got 60,000 votes, and running on the slogan to 'End Poverty in California' I got 879,000. I think we simply have to recognize the fact that our enemies have succeeded in spreading the Big Lie. There is no use attacking it by a front attack, it is much better to out-flank them. – Upton Sinclair.

The Kimmel backlash just keeps coming . . .

Obama has harsh words for Trump in the wake of the Kimmel's suspension.

Legal professionals are calling the Kimmel suspension “illegal 'jawboning'.”

The NYT take.

Dangerous Dan

I once thought poetry could change the world. It doesn’t.

Sent with good intentions out there on the road to hell

if one happens to get past the daily censors

starting a little fire causing a tiny dustup

they just shoot you full of their own version of venom

as if to top off your antidote with more disease.

The only reason to write a poem is to cure yourself.

Maybe that’s why poetry is dangerous.

– James Allen Bethel, “Dangerous Dan,” in Unless Rain, Cervena Barva Press, publication pending.
