Swimming in that Egyptian river . . .
Monday, September 1, 2025. It's the Moon's day . . . So much for the reliability of the weatherfeather trying to predict for TulseyTown yesterday. Other forecasts say today to be mostly cloudy until the afternoon, again with light breezes, low 80's and a slight chance for rain, especially tonight.
Some people are still in denial and disbelief. “It’s not as bad as the press makes it out to be,” they say. I tell them that it is — even worse. That said, the better news is that the seeds of Trump’s destruction have already been sown. – Robert Reich, Sunday Thought: Why Trump is Doomed, online, 8.31.25
The Week Ahead – Joyce Vance, Civil Discourse, 9.1.25
Lessons from “1984.” Joyce Vance has been exploring the novel and Saturday on Civil Discourse posted an excellent video summary for us with guest Princeton Professor Kim Scheppele . Its rather long, about :40 minutes, but worth it.
World War Two –the “great” war – started today in 1939 as Hitler invaded Poland and Britain and France declared war in response.
September 1, 1939
I sit in one of the dives
On Fifty-second Street
Uncertain and afraid
As the clever hopes expire
Of a low dishonest decade:
Waves of anger and fear
Circulate over the bright
And darkened lands of the earth,
Obsessing our private lives;
The unmentionable odour of death
Offends the September night. . .
– W.H. Auden, September 1, 1939.

It's a mystery . . .
Sunday, August 31, 2025. It's Sol's day . . . and the weatherfeather, as only occasionally reliable, indicates more rain for TulseyTown today. Likely the on/off kind. Light breezes and low 80's.
If you are among the millions of Americans who want spirituality without religion, Sam Harris’s New York Times bestseller “Waking Up” is a guide to a rational practice informed by neuroscience and psychology. The paperback ed. is only $10. An excellent read.
It is not religions that are in conflict, but the shadow selves of hate and other harmful beliefs disguised as religion – Omid Safi, Meditations, The Center for Action and Contemplation.
Do not look away. It’s more important now than ever to stay informed and to understand what’s happening to our democracy. Joyce Vance gives us a helping hand in her Sunday Morning Wrap-up, posted on Civil Discourse.

One can dream . . .
Saturday, August 30, 2025. It's the Satyr's day … A perfectly calm morning in my TulseyTown neighborhood.
Today is the birthday of one of the world's wealthiest investors, Warren_Buffett. He turns 95 today, celebrating in the same town where he was born in 1930 Omaha, Nebraska.
Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley was born on this day. The author of Frankenstein, considered by many as the first science fiction book, was born in 1797, London, England. My postman reminded me that Frankenstein was not the monster, but the doctor who created him, and that the original 1818 text was a philosophical exploration of humanity’s relationship with creation.
Stillness. No leaf moves even at the top of the 60 foot Sycamore that all but engulfs the house and large corner lot across the way from my small cottage. A random leaf just moved by a one lone honking Canadian going only he knows where. A rare stillness to start another cloudy day with rain chances. Eventually, easy Southeasterlies are forecasted to bring upper 70's and a bit of flutter in the leaves preparing for a golden Fall.
