Cruel red sky . . .
Saturday, March 15, 2025. It's the Satyr's day . . . Yesterday's Western high winds, multiple range fires in the area and today's Northwesterlies have left TulseyTown with some sunshine mixed with smokey clouds. Winds are forecasted to be moderate with temperatures in the low 60's. Northerlies tonight are indicated to provide further clearing. The Spring roller coaster is supposed to settle down by mid-week with ten sunny days to follow in the 70's with overnights finally holding in the 40's. My indoor/outdoor plants are finally outside after their long Winter sleep.

A reminder: Today is the Ides of March, the day Julius Caesar was stabbed to death by conspirators in 44 B.C.E. … It’s not quite true that a soothsayer warned Caesar to “Beware the Ides of March!” as Shakespeare says. In fact, the soothsayer warned Caesar a month earlier to beware a 30-day period ending in the Ides of March, that is, the times from February 15 to March 15. But the Ides had finally come.

The struggle within the Democratic Party over how to navigate [with the government funding bill] says a lot about the larger political struggle in the United States … Praise for the resisters shows the popular demand for leaders who will stand up to Trump and Musk. This kind of struggle is not the first, nor likely the last, time. – Heather Cox Richardson, in Letters From An American.

Sunset brings the memory:
forgiveness gives
again before above.
Above the mountain world's mountain
a full moon rises amid an echo
from an infinite eternity.
In the red sky dawn
over the wine dark sea
the cruelties of the world recede
if only after a moment.

We have a lamp inside us, the lamp of mindfulness, which we can light anytime. The oil of that lamp is our breathing, our steps, and our peaceful smile. We have to light up that lamp of mindfulness so the light will shine out and the darkness will dissipate and cease. Our [meditation] practice is to light up the lamp. Thich Nhat Hanh

Faith isn’t a journey beyond doubt; often it’s a journey into the wilderness and into the midst of doubt. – Pico Iyer, “Becoming Aflame,” a conversation. https://tricycle.org/article/becoming-aflame/?
I am committed to the idea that the ability to think for one’s self depends upon one’s mastery of the language. – Joan Didion
When we think about our own evolution, it’s always good to remember that we’re all animals. Animals. And the rules which govern the lives of lions and wolves, the closest relative primates, are no different than the rules which govern our lives. Govern our lives we are in constant competition with each other competition to breed, to eat, to seek water and shelter. Only humans cannot survive without a tribe. Empathy exist to ensure the survival of our offspring. Morality, whatever that may mean, exists to govern the behavior of the members within the tribe in hopes that the tribe does not destroy itself. But today, all these tribes live close together, and we must try a way to see all humankind as one species – not as a collection of tribes.
Our survival depends upon.this. The age of competition is ended the age of cooperation is here. If we do not find a way to cooperate, to extend that empathy to all humankind, then we will be the axe that chops our own roots. We will be the arbiter of our own extinction. – by Taylor Sheridan, from The Mayor of Kingstown, a video series on Prime,
The days when the Republican Party were conservatives are long gone … In 2025 the Republicans in charge of the United States of America are not the conservatives they call themselves; they are the dangerous ideological radicals [and tariffs are the tip of the iceburg about to settle over the country]. – Heather Cox Richardson, in Letters From An American.
