Another Minnesota writer is also 77 today. Mystery novelist Ellen Hart was born in 1949 Minneapolis, Minnesota. She holds the Grand Master designation from Mystery Writers of America.

Two Hollywood landmark films premiered on this date ten years apart. Billy Wilder's film drama Sunset Boulevard opened in 1950 and Alfred Hichcock's horror film Psycho hit the screen in 1960. Both were exemplary film noir genre productions, purposefully shot in in black and white.
