Thank You

The name of this weekday is in honor of Thor – and, well, why not?

In the Thanksgiving Day mailbox . . .

[N]ature is missing something even more exquisite and grand than the majestic architecture of atoms, the rhythm of the tides, the luminescence of the galaxies: some immortal substance, which lies hidden from view . . . Perhaps the immortal thing that we wish for exists beyond time and space. Perhaps it is what made the universe. Perhaps. – after Alan Lightman

In case you were wondering (and even if you weren't): “The more you [practice] gratitude, the more your brain changes. Thankfulness releases the bonding hormone oxytocin, which lowers stress and triggers a cascade of feel-good neurotransmitters. These include anandamide, the “bliss molecule.” The things for which we’re grateful don't have to be massive, like a new job, relationship or car. They can be as simple as the aroma of that first cup of coffee in the morning . . .” [. . . The sun peeking through the clouds. . . Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on the tele . . . ] – Dawson Church

I am thankful that we can comprehend the incomprehensible.

I am grateful for everything that I have and for everything that I don’t have.

I am thankful for deep time – for the eternal – for the capacity to comprehend the universe in a dust mote in a sunbeam.
