In the mailbox this snowy morning…

To the extent we are not attached to our desire systems, we are able to hear other human beings and do less projecting onto them what we think we need in any particular moment. Out of such action comes more compassion for who these “others” are … this doesn’t mean we don’t have desires, but rather there is a paradox that’s hard to work with, which is this: “What does it mean to be fully involved in life and non-attached?”   -- after Ram Dass

Forgetfulness: We are not alone. If we were, I would not be using the word “we.”

Humans are made to engage in life-affirming conversation with the whole, holy web of life. But, this great conversation, as evolutionary theologian/poet Thomas Berry calls it, has been broken: “We are talking only to ourselves. We are not talking to the rivers, we are not listening to the wind and stars.” Breaking this conversation has devastating consequences for the creatures and bio systems of our planet. This disconnection also has severe consequences for our spirituality and vitality as human participants in the interconnected web of life. – Victoria Loorz “The Church of the Wild.” 2022. Loorz proposes an ecumenism beyond the limits even the church has placed on the meaning of “Christos,” inviting “The Great Mystery” to reveal itself.

Rowing harder doesn’t help if the boat is headed in the wrong direction. – Keniche Ohmae
