Ah, sweet mystery . . .

Monday, September 7, 2026. It's the Moon's day . . . waning toward new at this 9 a.m. hour. It's so hot in Green Country that I wonder my keyboard isn't melting. Moderate Southerlies, intense sunshine, 103º real, 108º index are all in the forecasts for TulseyTown this afternoon. 100's reach into the evening.

To hold the full mystery of life is always to endure its other half, which is the equal mystery of death and doubt. To know anything fully is always to hold that part of it which is still mysterious and unknowable. – Fr.Richard Rohr, “The Dance of Faith and Doubt,” Meditations, The Center for Action and Contemplation. 9.6.26

Today is Labor Day. It's a federal holiday established to honor and recognize the American labor movement and the works and contributions of laborers. For most Americans, though, it has become a day to observe the last day of Summer with outdoor BBQ's. Only about 1 in 10 belong to a union.

Queen Elizabeth I was born on this date in 1533, Greenwich, near London, England. The latter half of the 16th century in England is justly called the Elizabethan Age: rarely has the collective life of a whole era been given so distinctively personal a stamp.

Today is the birthdate of folk painter Grandma Moses born in1860, Greenwich, New York. See some of her work here.

The secret of it all.

Ah, sweet mystery of life, at last I've found thee
Ah! I know at last the secret of it all
All the longing, seeking, striving, waiting, yearning
The burning hopes, the joy and idle tears that fall
For 'tis love and love alone the world is seeking
And 'tis love and love alone that can repay
'Tis the answer, 'tis the end and all of living
For it is love alone that rules for aye.
