Boom

The weather has not prevented the Mailbox on Watercourse Way from receiving notices this aptly named “Thor's Day.” Noteworthy:

Here in Tulsey-Town at this 8 a.m. hour of my writing, we are experiencing the leading edge of what the forecasters say is a likely “bomb cyclone.” The term is derived from from the meteorological term "bombogenesis" – a powerful low-pressure system that intensify rapidly and often is accompanied by heavy snow and strong winds. Yup, that's us. 40 mph Northerlies and -1º with horizontal snowfall. Folks to the Northeast of us will get the brunt of the Winter Solstice born event. Dig in. Warm prayers.

Italian composer Giacomo Puccini was born in Lucca, Tuscany, on this day in 1858. His most famous operas include Madama Butterfly (1904), Tosca (1900), La Bohème (1896), and Turandot (1924). — all feature a theme: Those who have lived for love, died for love. He died of complications from the treatment of throat cancer in 1924 before Turandot was completed by a fellow composer.

And it's the 117th anniversary of the birth of Kenneth Rexroth. The poet, essayist and translator was born in South Bend, Indiana, today in 1905.

The Spark in the Tinder of Knowing

The sea of fire that lights all being / Becomes the human heart — Kenneth Rexroth
