Today is the 147th anniversary of the birth of poet Rainer Maria Rilke.
This Sunday last was the 85th anniversary of Jim Harrison's birth in Grayling, Michigan.
“I like grit, I like love and death, I’m tired of irony. As we know from the Russians, a lot of good fiction is sentimental. ... The novelist who refuses sentiment refuses the full spectrum of human behavior, and then he just dries up. ... I would rather give full vent to all human loves and disappointments, and take a chance on being corny, than die a smartass.” – Jim Harrison via Garrison Keillor.
Harrison died in March, 2016.
Fifty years ago today the last moonwalk took place bringing an end to the Apollo 17 mission, the longest and most successful of all the Apollo missions.
