Yang, Naked

This morning, rain pours on the mailbox…

Humans produce in the arts the inner images the soul needs in order to see itself and to allow its own transformation. – Jung

All artists regardless of their media are in their own way, prophets, and often unwelcome ones, particularly to those who have been and are radically faithful to a freedom that did and does not quit.

Art, broadly defined, is any activity proceeding from nonaggressive gentleness and appreciation – what Trungpa Rinpoche called the practice of “art in everyday life.” Cooking a meal and cleaning up afterward can be done with the mindfulness and care of artful living. We are, then, the artists of our lives and of our collective destiny, co-creating a disastrous or healthy future: it’s up to us.

Try to count how many paintings in art museums, churches, and homes show a wonderfully dressed woman offering for your admiration – and hers – an often naked baby boy. What is the very ubiquity of this image saying...? – Fr. Richard Rohr.
